I’ve had a lot of dream cars in my mental files ever since I was a child. There have been a few that have risen to the top of the list. One of them is the C Type Jaguar.

The C Type was basically a competition version of the XK120 with a very smooth and sultry body that every time I have seen one, I get a little weak in the knees. With production numbers so low (I think about 54 of them?) the values are insane. I watched one sell at auction in Monterey for 13 million dollars a handful of years ago. Granted it had LeMans history and was perhaps the most valuable C in the world, but even lesser examples are well into the millions.

I don’t have millions, but fortunately over the years there have been companies out there that have built some pretty decent replicas.

Perhaps the best replicas out there , other than the handful of continuation cars that Jaguar has recently offered, are the cars by Proteus in the UK. Their current replicas are fantastic and the range of replicas that they have produced since their early days in the 80’s are also highly prized.

Recently I came across a photo posted on a Facebook group for Jaguar specials and replicas of an unfinished C type project car. The story was that the posters father had passed and the car was going to be put up for sale. I inquired and started up the conversation with the seller and eventually struck a deal . Some friends of mine came along for the rescue and retrieval and now it sits in “the lab” here at Carchaeology.
